What Does Healthy Really Look Like?
Seeing Is Not Believing
Have we as a society been able to truly define what healthy really means? Perhaps, it’s visible by looking at you.
Recently, I’ve heard comments like:
“It’s about how you feel rather than how you look”
“Is not gauged by our outward appearance”
To be quite honest, we are dubbed to believe, through the power of the media, that to live a robust life, is to be thin and covered in makeup. This visual assessment of what healthy is, couldn’t be further from the truth. If it looks healthy on the outside, it must be healthy. NOT!
In retrospect, there is a thing called “skinny fat.” ‘Skinny fat’ , medically known as visceral fat, can be very dangerous to your health. This is where body fat may not show on the outside, but fat attaches to the organs on the inside and wreaks havoc causing illnesses such as diabetes, insulin resistance, heart disease and the like.
I can attest to this. I’m slim. I workout regularly. However, being borderline diabetic caused me to focus on my eating habits. I was a sweet-a-holic. Today I am 8 days sugar free…. I’ll keep you posted on this journey!
My best suggestion to you is to exercise 3 to 5 times per week and sustain a wholesome meal plan, incorporating lots of fruits and vegetables.
Consequently, we’ve seen a radical change in the way we view health today. You’ve tried a plethora of diets and regimes. As well, you’ve drudged through a myriad of exercise plans and programs on the market. As great as they may be, some workout plans can leave you feeling overwhelmed and confused. Who’s right? Who’s wrong?
Getting Back To Reality
In all actuality, healthy comes in all shapes and sizes, thoughts and perspectives. Let’s get back to reality here. What works form me may not necessarily work for you.
At the end of the day, we’re all unique, complex and wonderfully made. Created within each of us is the voice of good and evil, truth and lies. Close out the noise and listen to that small voice that guides you in all that you do.
Just know this, the world will continue to grow busier and busier. Pause long enough to hear your vibrant, healthy side; that place that gives you strength, energy and joy to be the best you that you can be. As you listen, you will know what healthy truly means for you.
